I am a professional astronomer and since 1984 have been working at the Space Telescope Science Institute which is located on the Homewood campus of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. We are a NASA funded institution and are responsible for operating the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) which was launched in 1989; the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) which is currently under construction and planned for launch in 2021; and the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) which is in it's design stage and planned for launch around 2025. In addition we provide the astronomical community access to the data archives of NASA's Optical & UltraViolet missions (such as IUE, EUVE, Kepler and TESS). STScI is also a major research institution with a very active scientific staff.
As a music lover with a talented artist and singer as a wife and partner, it was very easy and natural for me to slip into the role of the 'sound-guy' for her bands. This has led to an enjoyable and interesting activity as an audio engineer for a number of local bands, as well as occasional gigs for an audio production company which provides services to a number of local area festivals.
Another interest my wife and I share is collecting weapons - don't panic we have not needed to use any other than for recreational use! We have a wide collection from Viking axes, medieval swords, longbows & recurves to modern firearms.
Originally from Scotland - and still proud of my heritage - our family has become more and more involved with Rennaissance Faires and enjoy 'dressing up' in medieval styles...
